Note from the Guarani-Kaiowa Aty Guasu to Brazilian and World authorities in response to the Collective Death Threat and Genocide of the Guarani-Kaiowa People announced by agricultural estate owners in the Brazil/Paraguay border region
We, members of the Guarani and Kaiowa Great Council, Aty Guasu, by means of this note, inform Brazilian Federal authorities (FUNAI, MPF e PF), as well as World authorities, of the death threat to Indigenous People, that is, the genocide/ethnocide announced by the fazendeiros (large agricultural estate owners) who occupy Guarani-Kaiowa ancestral lands. Today, on August 18th 2012, the fazendeiros announced the new killing/extermination of Guarani Kaiowa People in the municipality of Paranhos, MS (Mato Grosso do Sul), in the Brazil/Paraguay border region. It is important to point out that these feared fazendeiros come from a group of murderers that have long practiced genocide/ethnocide in the Paranhos region. They openly preach the extermination of Indigenous Peoples and announce the collective killing, genocide/ethnocide, of the Guarani Kaiowa People.
As we are facing collective death threat, as promised publicly in the press by the fazendeiros, we request investigation and severe punishment of these mentors of genocide/ethnocide of Indigenous Peoples. Everybody knows that they have sophisticated and feared fire arms, and they have money produced on the expense of Indigenous blood to buy more weapons and to hire gunmen. That is how they have historically dominated Guarani Kaiowa ancestral lands, by the use of weapons to kill Indigenous People and to push us out of our traditional lands, a situation that lasts to this day.
It is important to remember that throughout the 1940’s, 1960’s and 1970’s, these newly arrived fazendeiros invaded Guarani and Kaiowa territories of the present South Cone by killing/decimating Guarani Kaiowa communities and by violently pushing us out of our traditional territories, the Tekoha Guasu. Today, on August 18th 2012, at 12 p.m., these same fazendeiros, with the appearance of “far west, gaucho style†gunmen, now rich on the expense of Indigenous blood, announced again the collective killing of the Guarani Kaiowa, the genocide of our people. They stated that they will keep on killing us, Indigenous People, in our ancestral territories.
As we face imminent attack by gunmen, we wish to communicate once more to all Brazilian Federal authorities and to World authorities that we, Guarani and Kaiowa People, just fight for pieces of our ancestral lands, and that we do not have fire weapons, and most important, we do not know how to use them. We want to express again that we fight for our ancestral lands to ensure human life, as well as animal and plant life on Planet Earth. Our goal is not to kill anybody. Our line of fight for our ancestral territories is to look for the proper way of life, in peace with the life of other human beings on this Earth. We believe in peace, we are peaceful. We do not have fire arms that destroy human life. We want to survive.
Lastly, we strongly reject violence against human life. We, Guarani and Kaiowa people, have our chants and holy prayers that we perform with our mbaraka and takua in order to look for, and to generate, true peace for human life. This is how we live, and this is how we want to die if they kill us, chanting and praying for the gunmen of the big farms. This is our position before the collective death threat/genocide/ethnocide announced publicly by the fazendeiros in the Brazil/Paraguay border region.
